There are numerous reasons people refuse help, even when it is so painfully obvious to everyone around them they need it. When it comes to home care as an option for seniors, what are some of the reasons elderly men and women don’t even want to talk about it?

Each person is different, but for the most part our excuses tend to be the same. Below we detail some of the most common excuses (or reasons) people refuse home care as an option when they are seniors.

Reason #1: They don’t admit to their limitations.

As you move through your 30s, 40s, 50s, or maybe even your 60s at this point in your life, have you come to acknowledge the changes in your physical capabilities?

There’s a reason professional athletes retire in their 30s (but now sometimes their 40s). They reach a point when their body can no longer take a physical toll.

The same holds true for each of us. No matter how often we work out, exercise, try to strengthen our muscles, and so on, nature will prevent us from improving physically at some point. We will reach a peak and start sliding down that slope on the other side of the summit.

And that’s okay. But, it’s important to continue admitting when we reach a certain limitations. If we don’t, we could face some serious mishaps, accidents, and health emergencies.

When seniors don’t admit to their own limitations, they won’t see the value in home care as an option.

Reason #2: They think it’s too expensive.

If a person has limited financial resources, they aren’t going to look into spending money on things they don’t value. If they assume home care is just too expensive, at least for them at this point in their life, they will never look into it.
What many people fail to understand is that home care (through an agency, at least) can be hired for just a couple of hours one or two days a week to start. That is more than affordable.

Reason #3: They worry about losing autonomy.

This is a big one. As people begin struggling with basic tasks of everyday life, if they ask for help they fear losing independence and autonomy.

Seniors don’t want to give up the right to decide what they do or don’t do on any given day. With home care, though, they don’t have to.

Aging men and women still get to hold onto their autonomy. Home care is simply a support to assist them each day.
The more people know about home care, the more they will likely consider it as an option for their future.
