Elder Care in The Heights, TX – Organizing the House can help Seniors both Reminisce and Avoid Unsafe Clutter
Jeremy was never one to have a lot of organization. He didn’t care too much about it when he was younger, and when he reached retirement age, he certainly didn’t think it mattered then. Yet now that he has decided to hire elder care, he figured that it was time to get organized.
When you began to look at various papers and documents that he had stored in a couple of boxes in the bottom of his closet, Jeremy began to realize that if something happened to him before he got to all of this stuff it would probably take the rest of their natural lives for his children to sift through it all.
It was a mess and he decided to ask the elderly home care provider he hired to help him with some of it. She was more than happy and they set about finding the best way to get organized.
Inexpensive file cabinets.
Jeremy headed to the local store and began to look for some cheap file cabinets. He found that he could choose to get organized by using plastic file boxes and bins. Some of these were stackable and he could organize them by topic and then refine the organization with hanging files and folders inside.
Develop a system.
The elderly home care provider suggested that he develop a system that made sense to him. He could organize the files any way that he wanted but that it should make sense to someone else as well. If it wasn’t going to make much sense to anyone else, then he might as well leave those papers all stacked and stuffed into boxes.
With her help, Jeremy developed a system that made sense. He organized his personal bills in one section, his medical records in another. He kept his financial documents, including tax returns and investment portfolio information in another bin, and began to find it easier to find things when he needed them.
Tell someone else about your system.
Once he got organized he told his adult son and daughter. After a few gasps and chokes of shock and surprise (and the requisite teasing), he told them both where to find the files and where the important documents were stored.
He found that with elder care he felt re-energized and that he would be able to do much more with and for his life and being organized was the first best step to making his Golden Years really fun and exciting.
