Home Care Services in Hilshire Village, TX – Helping Your Senior Loved One Overcome Fears of Embarrassing Home Care Moments
John wasn’t one for taking chances. Most of his life he had been very guarded about his personal matters and calculated every potential risk that he would have to take. It didn’t matter whether it was about going on a vacation or something to do with his career, he would always work through every issue before hand because, as he would say, he didn’t want to be embarrassed.
The moment that his family mentioned home care services to him, he was well aware of his physical condition and limitations. He suffered a stroke and was lying in a hospital bed. The doctors and told him that he would not regain the use of the left side of his body. They said he would be able to regain parts of the speech and the use of the right side of his body with some intense physical therapy, but that would require effort on his part. The doctors also recommended that he hire home care services to assist him, otherwise he was are going to require family to take care of him or move into a nursing home or assisted living facility that was equipped to handle an individual in his condition.
He didn’t want to think about any of those options. All he kept thinking about was having strangers roll him over in bed and change his bedpans or pads, assist him to the toilet, bathe him, and do all these other intimate activities that he should be able to do for himself.
Just the thought was embarrassing to him and that was one of the key reasons he refused to even talk about home care services with anyone in his family while he was still in the hospital.
By the time his discharge date had arrived, he still couldn’t think about it. Fortunately, an experienced nurse was on staff that day and she found out about his reluctance and approached him privately. She reminded him about the care he had received in the hospital and why he didn’t seem to be too embarrassed about that. He said that he understood doctors and nurses have a specific job to do. That’s when the nurse told him that home care services does as well.
She assured him that home care services was all about professionalism and that the assistance and care he would require was not something that these professionals hadn’t seen or done before. That seemed to set his mind at ease, at least a little. He eventually agreed to hire in home health care services and overcame his issues of modesty in that regard.
